Its main objectives are four fold:
- The promotion of good standards of umpiring by the provision of training courses and ongoing coaching and mentoring.
- The provision, on request, of umpires for games of hockey at all levels. The Association currently receives requests from the North West Hockey League, Universities and Colleges, Schools, County Hockey Associations and, on occasions, the North Hockey League.
- The promotion of co-operation between members for social and sporting purposes.
- Maintain close liaison with the North Hockey Umpires Association to ensure members’ potential as umpires is fully developed.
The Association plays an active role in encouraging clubs to put forward candidates to become qualified umpires and go on to make the best of their abilities. Members of our Association are currently umpiring at all levels of hockey from County Leagues to full Internationals. We also have Olympic and World panel umpires among our ranks.
